猫咪社区 welcomed representatives from Brunel University and the Metropolitan Police yesterday, as they joined forces to present career options to our Uniformed Public Services students. The session aimed to inform students about the opportunities and benefits of pursuing a career in the police force, and how to get there, including the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship programme, as well as highlighting the support available through Brunel University.
Sergeant Harpal from the Metropolitan Police and Karen from Brunel University delivered an engaging presentation to a group of students, discussing the unique opportunity the apprenticeship programme offers. The PCDA provides a fully funded degree in Professional Policing Practice (BSc Hons), allowing recruits to earn as they learn, with a starting salary of 拢36,775, which rises to 拢40,387 upon successful completion of the course.
The presentation highlighted the varied roles available within the police force, far beyond frontline duties. Sergeant Harpal shared personal experiences, while Karen emphasised the academic support available throughout the apprenticeship, providing a comprehensive picture of the pathway to a career in policing.
Students Gaia and Alexandra were particularly impressed by the talk, with Gaia saying: “We learned how essential the police are in informing and protecting the public. I had never realised how many different jobs there are in the police beyond frontline work.” Alexandra added: “The talk was motivational, the videos were excellent, and it really opened up my eyes. I had always envisioned working in the fire service, but now I鈥檓 considering a career in policing. It鈥檚 something to be proud of.”
Darren Morgan, Programme Lead for Sports & Uniformed Public Services at 猫咪社区, added, “It鈥檚 always fantastic to have visitors like the Met and Brunel University come in to expand our students’ horizons. It鈥檚 one thing to teach them in the classroom, but these real-world interactions really bring the material to life and show them the vast possibilities out there.”
